Recruiting in the Seafood Industry

Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America is North America’s largest seafood exposition. Thousands of buyers and suppliers from around the world attend the annual, three-day exposition to meet, network and do business. Attending buyers represent importers, exporters, wholesalers, restaurants, supermarkets, hotels, and other retail and foodservice companies. Exhibiting suppliers offer the newest seafood products, processing and packaging equipment, and services available in the seafood market. The exposition is sponsored by the National Fisheries Institute. SeafoodSource.com is the official media.

Recruiting in the Seafood industry

Recruiting good people in the seafood industry can be challenging, just like within any other industry. Those who focus solely on job-boards, often find it difficult to find top-performing employees that have vast experience within the field.

Solutions

The 50skills team met with dozens of different industry leaders at the Expo this year to discuss different sets of challenges. In short, our findings were that more than 50% of top-performing candidates were hired through networks of existing employees and advisors. In most cases, companies didn’t have any structure or system to provide this service, but rather trusted on having dialogs with top management to source candidates within the job.

How modern recruiting software can transform hires

Slack, Facebook Workplace and other team collaboration tools aren’t the first things that comes to mind when you think about the Seafood industry. The 50skills was pleasantly surprised to see how many of the top performing companies are using new tech in all parts of their operations to get ahead in the competing market.

Recruiting Software is no different. More and more fast growing companies within the Seafood Industry, are constantly looking at new opportunities that can help them get ahead. To find out more about best practices and what is being used. We started a quick survey which the team is still working on collecting information from. If your business is interested in being part of it – please send us a quick email to  hello@50skills.com titled “Seafood Expo 2018”, and we will send you a copy of the results once we have the main findings.
